Veolia was selected by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to provide disposal services for chemicals collected as part of the Syrian Chemical Weapons Elimination Program. These materials were not chemical weapons, but rather standard industrial chemicals that were earmarked for the Syrian program, but never used.

Our employees take great pride in being one of only two companies in the entire world selected by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical weapons to manage this important project.

Veolia and the OPCW signed an agreement to totally destroy the chemicals in a timely manner at Port Arthur, Texas. The selection of Veolia was based upon OPCW’s confidence in our capability and technology, and Port Arthur’s track record in high standards for health and safety and environmental compliance.

The materials were unloaded, inspected and received by Veolia’s team of experts, inspectors, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and a variety of local, state and federal agencies. Over the course of eighteen months we destroyed all of the industrial chemicals and OPCW validated their destruction.

Our employees take great pride in being one of only two companies in the entire world selected by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical weapons to manage this important project. We’re very proud of our role in making this world a safer place.
